| The Faith Tutoring Ministry meets every Tuesday from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm at the Church upstairs in the Fellowship Hall. The tutoring occurs every Tuesday except on holidays, during Christmas and Easter break, and when the students are out of school. The ministry focus is school age kids from 6 years old to 19 years old. Math and Science are the main subject areas of the program but English and Language tutoring are also provided. The tutors provide one-on-one assistance and additional resources to the students through workbooks, internet sites, CD ROMs, flash cards, worksheets, and past exams. Also handouts in Math are provided with key formulas and sample problems. Students have access to the tutors outside of the regular Tuesday session. They are able to contact the tutors via telephone or personal e-mail at home. Some students also receive specialized tutoring at their homes on other days during the week. Areas of concentration: • SAT/ACT exam • California High School Exit Exam (CHSEE) • California Standardized Tests Resources used are books, past exams, and mock exams and specialized tutoring outside of the Tuesday session is provided if requested by the students. Program attendees: August 2008 to present: Average attendees 22 August 2007-June 2008: Average attendees 18 August 2006-June 2007: Average attendees 23 During final exams for each year: Average attendees 25 Future Goals: 1. Increase the attendees to average of 40 per session 2. Expand the program to include personal computers 3. Incorporate community service into the program for high school students |
